The YTC Master Class is a place where performing artists can learn and discuss about specific nuances of the performance industry in Uganda. Our second master class was with the award-winning writer, Angie Emurwon speaking about Intimacy Direction specifically for film projects. It was held at Hotel Africana.
Angie Emurwon is a Ugandan filmmaker, stage director, writing mentor and award-winning playwright. She is an alumna of the 2011 Maisha Screenwriting Lab and has been mentoring screenwriters in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Germany, and Ghana, as part of the Maisha Film Lab Mentor Team since 2014. Her first short film Sunday (2018) won Best East African Short Film at the 2019 Mashariki African Film Festival (Rwanda), Best National Short at the 2019 Gulu International Film Festival (Uganda), 2nd prize Films by Women at Ndiva Women’s Film Festival (Ghana), as well as being selected for Durban Film Festival, Silicon Valley African Film Festival, Ngalabi Short Film Festival, among others. The screen adaptation project of her 2012 BBC Award-winning radio play Sunflowers behind a Dirty Fence won the Cinemart Rotterdam Lab Award for Most Promising Project at the 2015 Durban FilmMart. Her other radio play The Cow Needs a Wife (2010) won 3rd prize BBC Award, judged by Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka.
