Aganza Kisaka superbly adapts “The Ninny” By Anton Chekhov for Ugandan Audiences. Omwendo is a tense negotiation between an employer, Irene and her house-maid, Sylvia who eagerly awaits her monthly pay. This short film explores power dynamics, mindsets, coercion, manipulation and attitudes that exist between classes. Omuwendo loosely translates to “Worth” which begs the question of self-worth, identity and agency.
